Ponytails are certainly having a moment. For an appearance at the Toronto Film Festival, Taylor Swift made hers evening appropriate with texture and fishtail braids and now we’re dying to try it ourselves. Here’s a quick how-to.
To recreate her look, start with a texturizing spray on dry hair to get rough texture throughout. Then gather about an inch of hair just behind the ear and braid into a fishtail (here’s a quick fishtail braid tutorial). Repeat on the other side. Leaving the two braids out, gather the rest of the hair about two inches above the nape of the neck and secure with a clear elastic. Finish by twisting the braids around the elastic (to hide it) and secure them in place with bobby pins. Or skip the pins and just tuck the ends of the braid into the elastic.
