• New York Fashion Week has come and gone once again, but while others were rushing from show to show, we took the opportunity to poll the industry's biggest experts on the styling secrets they swear by.

Make Your Products Work for You
"Know when to edit. Don’t apply something because you think you have to," says Sarah Lucero, Stila Lead Makeup Artist at Rebecca Minkoff. "Make your products work for you."

  • Get Creative
Instead of using each product exactly as it was intended, Romy Soleimani for beauty.com at Richard Chai says creativity is key. "I use a lot of skin care products in non-skin care ways—to create a glisten or glow on the face or to mix an oil or serum on the eye lid for glossy eye."

  • Contour with Ease
MAC makeup artist Lyne Desnoyers gave us the easiest contouring trick we've ever heard backstage at Kate Spade: Just apply finishing powder down the center of the face. By doing this, the cheeks stand out, because they aren't matte like the rest of the face.

  • Twist Your Way to a Chignon
To get a conservative chignon, celebrity hairstylist Angelo David says to turn and twist the hair around a band so  it ends up creating a base and then bobby pin it in. "Then you can deconstruct it by pulling out a few pieces around the face."

  • Brush Your Brows
MAC Senior Artist Cher Webb says to always remember to brush up your brows. "If you have a down brow, the makeup doesn’t feel right—it has to be up."

  • Paint Neatly We all know the hardest part of painting our nails is painting our dominant hand with our non-dominant hand. Deborah Lippmann gave us a tip backstage at Band of Outsiders for how to deal: "So, I would brace my arm, about halfway up my forearm, and then do my polishing because then you really have control. Remember that your fingers rotate, so that’s the other thing that we do, we try to do everything straight on but, when you’re doing the side, rotate. Even when you’re doing basic polishing, it’s really so much better to brace it."
