Jennifer Hudson is about to become a triple threat! With a Grammy and an Oscar already on her mantle, the 30-year-old singer is now venturing into the fashion world as she prepares to launch the Jennifer Hudson Collection for QVC in September. Her clothing line will comprise of pieces from her former size 16 to her latest look, size six, for all of her fans who span that range.
“I feel like I represent every woman. I’ve been on both sides of the fence,” Jennifer told WWD. “I’ve been a big girl and now whatever this is, the average size, whatever you want to call it. But I wanted the clothes to be where any girl could wear it– no matter what size you are– and you could feel comfortable in it.”
The Dreamgirls star said the clothing truly is for everyone, and insists she would wear every single item in her 14-piece range. “It has to be true to me. I would not sign off on it if I would not wear it,” she said.
So what hot new garments can we expect to see? The range includes a sheer maxi-skirt with a discreet lining ($75), a snug knit dress ($74.50), and some saucy leggings ($50), which Jennifer says she owns 300 pairs of. That’s 300, with two zeros. “I’m the legging queen. What I love about a legging is, again, it’s a piece you can dress up or down and it’s still comfortable,” she said.
It’s hard not to admire a woman who’s endured such tragedy and still come out on top working hard and looking gorgeous. It seems like every woman can relate to her on some level or another, which is why we think this line will be a hit.
“She has this great Cinderella story, an aspiration for different women,” said Doug Howe, QVC’s executive vice president of merchandising, planning and sales. “We don’t overtly go out to target someone who is Hispanic or African-American. It all starts with the person’s story and product. That dictates who buys it.”
She’s got our support. Will you buy a piece of Jennifer’s collection?
