We've all been there: A mascara wand to your lashes while pulling on a heel, toothbrush still in your mouth as you turn off Matt Lauer and race for the door. Maybe it was the temptation of the snooze button, or seriously underestimated shower time. Whatever the reason, you rushed getting ready and now you're late. Cut back on morning maintenance drama by streamlining your AM routine with these stellar tips from hair guru David Evangelista and Stila makeup pro Sarah Lucero.
"Plan ahead and keep your favorite skincare products in the shower," Lucero lectures. When your cleanser, exfoliator, and moisturizer are ready at hand, morning skincare can be done in a snap! "This way your skin is quickly prepped and ready for makeup."
When a blow dryer is involved, suddenly a bathroom can feel about as speedy as the post office or DMV. If your dryer is the time-snatching culprit, "Try sectioning hair before you style," advises Evangelista. With less hair on your brush, locks will dry much faster.
Forgo brush-on bronzer for a shimmery tinted moisturizer. The cream formula takes seconds to apply with fingers, and leaves skin glowing. "Stila One Step Bronze is a lifesaver," says Lucero. "You can get away with using it as your foundation too." (Stila One Step Primecolor, $11)
Showering at night can cut back hair styling time in the morning, but pillow and towel static make hair frizzy. Evangelista recommends spraying straggly hair with a fresh water bottle and adding a defrizzing product to damp hair. It'll dry in no time and your frizz will be yesterday's news.
Well groomed brows take any beauty look from drab to fab. Brow gel can awaken your face when you don't have time to use a pencil. Lucero recommends Anastasia's Tinted Brow Gel to instantly groom and define eyebrows with just one sweep of the wand. (Anastasia Tinted Brow Gel, $21)
One signature timesaving style comes compliments of Blaire Waldorf. Slip a headband on top of dull hair for an instant accessory update and easy camouflage for half-styled hair. Evan Rachel Wood even makes a simple updo look super glam with a thin black band!
"Apply mascara to lashes before applying eyeliner." Lucero has found that coated lashes help guide liner along eyelids in a flash, and blend mistakes into lash roots so they practically disappear. Goof-proof cat eyes? Meow.
Braids will put you on-trend, and on time! Evangelista tells clients to knot their wet hair to look instantly chic. Replace a curling iron by loosely braiding wet hair during your commute. By the time you arrive at the office and untangle your braid, hair will have set into delicate waves.
Put your products to work by swapping an entire makeup bag for a few double-duty items. "Multi-task by applying a cream blush on your cheeks and lips," tutors Lucero. "Creams are easier to blend with fingertips and melt into skin easily." (Multipurpose Benefit Benetint, $29)
Invest in a travel-sized palette. When you work from an all-inclusive palette, like Too Faced's Glamour To Go (Sephora, $22), you can save time in the morning by cutting back on your makeup application. When your whole face is in your purse, applying throughout the day is easy and won't obligate you to perfect your look in the AM.
