Curly hair, while gorgeous, can also be a handful. Frizz can cause your spiral strands to be virtually unmanageable. To make your curls behave like Jordin Sparks' here, we went to curl expert Ouidad to get her tips on how to tame your curly hair once and for all.
The best way to make curls behave? Keep hair healthy. This is especially important if you're rocking super-long curls like Megan Fox. Ouidad recommends using a deep-conditioning treatment on hair every two weeks to "feed your hair" and keep it strong, shiny and healthy. Try: Macadamia Healing Oil Treatment
If you want your curls to keep their bounce like Alyson Hannigan's, Ouidad recommends skipping the brush. "Brushing your curls causes them to fan out," she says, resulting in that fluffy look. Don't comb your hair after your shower--comb it in the shower, after you've applied conditioner. This will give your curls the moisture they need without making them limp.
Style chameleons like Lea Michele know that curly hair is very versatile--you can wear it straight, curly, wavy or a mix of all three. If you do straighten your hair, Ouidad says to stay away from the flat iron as it will do more harm than good. Instead, use your blowdryer, a large natural bristle brush and a smoothing product. When it comes to your curls, natural is always better. Need proof? Just look at Garcelle Beauvais' gorgeous natural texture. Ouidad urges curly girls to air dry their hair whenever possible to get the best-looking curl. If you absolutely must blowdry, use a diffuser on your roots and let your ends air-dry so as not to dehydrate them and cause frizz.
Even girls with straight hair can cop a natural-looking curl. To get Katie Holmes' pretty ringlets, spray hair with a heat styling spray like John Frieda Frizz-Ease Heat Defeat Protective Spray, then wrap sections of hair vertically around a 2-inch curling iron. Tousle curls gently with your fingers, then spray with hairspray to set.
For perfectly defined curls like Denise Richards', look no further than your hands. "Never forget the magic of your fingers--they are the best styling tools for curls," says Ouidad. To get that definition, Ouidad recommends raking fingers through your hair after curling it, holding each section at the ends and then shaking to set your curl pattern.
If you've tried everything else and your hair still won't behave, it's time to unleash the dream team. "The combination of my Climate Control Heat & Humidity Gel with Moisture Lock Leave-In Conditioner never fails," says Ouidad. Celebrate your hair--gorgeous spirals like Cote de Pablo's don't come naturally to everyone. Embrace your curls and be one of the few, the proud, the curly!
