Britney Spears just announced that she will be performing in Las Vegas for the next two years. We can't wait to see what costumes and—more importantly—what hairstyles the pop star will be donning. To celebrate, we're taking a look back at Britney's ever-evolving coif.
In 1993, Britney became part of the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse cast and starred alongside Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake and Ryan Gosling. Just look at that ruffled blouse!
Pigtails were never thought of the same way after Britney filmed her "Baby One More Time" music video in 1998, complete with schoolgirl uniform.
Britney became a star almost over night, and started sporting long blonde extensions, seen here at the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards.
Britney added bangs for her 2000 "Sometimes" music video. Hey Britney, you'll be happy to know crop tops are making a comeback!
This crazy hat (worn in 2000) is just one of many you'll see throughout the years.
One of our favorite hairstyles came in 2000 when Britney added micro braids to her wavy hair. She also wore the style when she performed at the Superbowl.
By 2001, loose waves were a permanent accessory for the star, who wore them to the MTV Video Music Awards that year.
She went big and curly at the 2002 Grammy Awards.
Yet another hat, this time with a biker spin (courtesy of 2002)!
Following her split from Justin Timberlake in 2003, Britney dealt with a broken heart like most girls do: She cut her hair.
Later that year she went even shorter and dyed her hair a light brown.
At a Pepsi event in 2003, Britney tested out a blonde wig with red streaks.
See? We told you lots of hats were involved. This one is circa 2003.
While on tour in 2004, Britney made the switch from blonde to brunette. This was also during the time she was filming what would become her reality show, Britney and Kevin: Chaotic.
She kept the dark hair for her 2004 wedding to Kevin Federline.
By 2005, Britney lost the brunette hair and gained a sizable baby bump.
For her second pregnancy in 2006, Britney went dark yet again.
2007 will live on in infamy as the year Britney shaved her head (and lost her mind a little bit).
Later that year, Britney taught us all an important lesson: If you try to attach extensions to less than an inch of hair, it will not look good.
By 2008, she was looking like herself again with pretty waves.
In 2011, Britney attended the MTV Video Music Awards with voluminous layers.
She wore a pretty half-up hairstyle in 2012.
While promoting her season of The X Factor in 2012, Britney showed off a shorter cut and springy waves.
She started 2013 with a deep chestnut color ...
And ended 2013 by going back to her signature blonde.
