Just when you finally got "Firework" out of your head, Katy Perry's tribute to burning brightly (and then exploding?) that you heard approximately 398493 times this Fourth of July is back. This time, it's one of her nine MTV VMA nominations. "Firework" is nominated for the biggest award of the night, Video of the Year, and in many other categories. Perry's newest song, "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" is also up for Best Pop Video.
British soul singer Adele is "Rolling in the Deep"...with VMA nominations, that is. In case you haven't listened to her latest album, 21, don't watch Glee (the show has now done two Adele covers) or just haven't been tipped off to the amazingness that is Adele yet, please, give this lady a listen asap. She's up for seven VMAs, people; the numbers don't lie.
Lady Gaga, who's currently in a blue period of sorts, is up for a relatively tame three VMAs this year. Gaga's nominations include Best Art Direction and Best Choreography for "Judas," and Best Female Video for "Born This Way."
Queen B, who's kind of a Daily Makeover she-crush, is also nominated for three VMAs. Her amazing dance video "Run the World (Girls)" is up for Best Female Video, Best Choreography and Best Cinematography.
Nicki Minaj may have had more hairstyle and colors than anyone in the industry, but there's no denying that she's got swagger. The female rapper's "Super Bass" is nominated for Best Female Video and Best Hip-Hop Video, and her duet with Drake is up for "Best Collaboration."
